The Ben Schaffer Cancer Institute was founded in 1997 by Harvey and Deanne Gilbert to serve the needs of patients living in San Joaquin and surrounding counties. The founding principles were

Since that time we have served thousands of patients and developed many substantive relationships.
At no time have we lost sight of our primary goal stated above in our founding principles, and abandoned our desire to bring University level care to the San Joaquin Valley and do so with care and compassion.
Our hand- selected staff has served our patients well and has brought a new level of care to this region.
In the field of Oncology, teamwork is the byword. We work closely with the other specialists in our field to provide you with seamless care and a feeling that you are part of our extended family.

In 2004 we founded the Valley PET Institute to be the first to provide cancer scanning to San Joaquin. Since that time we have performed thousands of scans on cancer patients.
